Halloween Spider Cookies
Aren’t they the cutest?? I love simple and I love fun halloween treats. These easy Halloween cookies are one of our Halloween favorites!
These Spooky Spider cookies are so fun to make (the kids will love helping you) and they also make for a fun treat to bring to Halloween parties and gatherings.
The kids love the little eyeballs and all of the spooky (ok, cute!) spider cookies look awesome on the table and are a quick easy treat that will go perfectly with your decor! So much fun!
Items Needed to make Spider Cookies
Any type of cookie will work. You can use homemade cookies, or if you are in a rush, pre-made cookie dough (or even store bought cookies) can work.
Mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (make sure to get the mini peanut butter cup size)
Candy Eyes
Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
How to make Spider Cookies
Bake cookies as directed. As you pull them out of the oven use a teaspoon-measuring spoon to make divots in the middle of the cookie and then allow the cookies to cool completely.
While you are waiting for your cookies to cool, placeacupof chocolate chips in a bowl and microwave them in intervals of 12 seconds until they are completely melted. You will use this melted chocolate to drizzle the spider legs onto the cookies.
We love these chocolate chip spider cookies but a close second favorite for Halloween are peanut butter spider cookies, made exactly the same way! If you are really in a rush, we’ve also made these using pre-made dough (sugar cookies are yummy and you can find that dough in the refrigerated section at the grocery store)
Make The Spider Body and Legs
To create the spider body, place your Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in the middle of the cookie where your divot is. Make sure to get the peanut butter cup right in the center of each cookie.
Next, add the candy eyes by placing a dap of melted chocolate on the back of the candy eyeballs you can stick them into place on the peanut butter cups. Make sure your candy eyes are firmly in place before continuing.
Lastly, use your meltedchocolate to drizzle the chocolate spiders legs onto the cookies which will finish the spider’s body. Run your chocolate off the side of the cookies from the Reese’s cups to the bottom of the cookies.
*Just make sure that you allow the cookies to cool after whatever cookie recipes you use. A too warm cookie will cause the chocolate legs to run, so wait to do that step on the top of each cookie until the cookies have sat on the cooling rack for a bit.
I used the smallest tip on my Wilton cake decorating set to draw the legs with the chocolate frosting / melted chocolate.
Let the melted chocolate dry on top of the cookies before you serve them – you might even want to put them in the fridge to set up a bit.
These easy Halloween spider cookies are such a fun Halloween treat that is also one of our favorite recipes to make during the fall and this is a recipe that the kids will love helping with as well! Fun Halloween desserts are one of my favorite things about this time of year and nothing says Happy Halloween like gross food recipes, am I right?
My kids get the biggest kick out of Halloween dessert ideas like this and I love this particular recipes because it’s so simple – so fun and it’s easy to make and has an easy cleanup as well!
