About Arthur C. Baue and Viola Baue:

About Us - Bauefamily (1)

About Us - Bauefamily (2)Arthur (Art) C. Baue founded our family firm over 85 years ago and dedicated his life to giving back to his community, his church and local families. He believed that everyone deserved a dignified funeral service to honor life and help heal survivors—he never turned a family away facing a true financial hardship.

Art and his wife Viola opened their first funeral home during the middle of the depression years in 1935. After experience firsthand, how extreme poverty was affecting his new community, they began supporting the homeless and impoverished with food and clothing drives out of their funeral home.

Arthur served on numerous charitable councils and brought the Salvation Army to St. Charles, becoming their first board chair in 1958. For his selfless efforts, Art was honored with the William Booth award, which was usually only given to Corps officers within the Salvation Army. He was the only civilian to receive this award during this time.

Viola was active over the years and she and her husband were founders of the Salvation Army in St. Charles and charter members of the St. Charles Country Club. She was past president of the St. Charles Business and Professional Women’s Club, and past president of the St. Charles Sinawiks (the women’s group of the Kiwanis of which Arthur C. Baue was the founding President). She was also active in her church, Immanuel Lutheran in St. Charles were she was the past president of the Lydia Society.

Over the years, Viola was active in the funeral home company serving in a variety of capacities. She received national recognition for funeral home design and decorating from the

National Selected Morticians Association (NSM).

About David C. and Jill Baue:

About Us - Bauefamily (3)About Us - Bauefamily (4)David C. Baue moved to St. Charles at the age of 10 months when his father, Arthur Baue, established the funeral home. David joined the family business in 1957, became president in 1968 and served until his untimely death in 1987.

Like his father, David continued the tradition of quality service to families in St. Charles County. He was active in numerous civic organizations including: Board of Directors of the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce; Board of Directors of Commerce Bank in St. Charles; Board of Oversees of Lindenwood College; St Charles Rotary Club, Boy Scout Eagle Board of Review; past Chairman of the United Fund Campaign and St. Charles County YMCA Board of Directors.

Jill Baue was born in Vandalia, Illinois. A daughter of a Doctor and a Nurse, higher education was encouraged at an early age. She graduated from William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri and shortly afterwards married David C. Baue of St. Charles, Missouri. She had 3 children, Lisa and Paul Baue of St. Charles, and Mark of San Francisco, and 5 Grandchildren: John and Erin Devaney, Savannah, Shyla and Mason Baue.

Jill was a full time stay at home mom in her early years, supporting her husband and their family owned funeral business in a rapidly growing St. Charles County. She still found time to volunteer as she became active over the years in the community. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 12 years, active in the Sister Cities Club and Historic Re-enactments in St. Charles. She was a volunteer Gray Lady at St. Joseph Health Center and a Member of the Century Club for SSM St. Joseph Hospitals. She was also a member of the St. Charles Jaycee Wives and their Past President during the 1960’s. She was also a Past Board Member of Commerce Bank. In 2005, Jill received the Lifetime Distinguished Service Civic Award from the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce.

Jill was a long time benefactor of the Foundry Arts Centre, serving on their Board and as an Event Volunteer over the years. Her love of the arts, being an “amateur” artist as she called herself and member of the St. Charles Artist Guild, inspired her to help this “Centre” become a tribute to the Arts in St. Charles County. It was her true desire to see children express their artistic talents and be recognized. This desire led her to help create and support this legacy, a separate gallery just for children, which was formed when the Foundry opened.
